چکیده

Purpose. When neostigmine is used to reverse muscle relaxants in patients with asthma without signs of airway inflammation, asthma attack is encountered occasionally. It is likely that abnormally-increased electrical impulses traveling from brain through cholinergic nerves to airway smooth muscles may be one of the pathogeneses of asthma attack. We applied continuous electrical field stimulation (c-EFS) or continuous electrical stimulation (c-ES) with low frequency to vagal nerve of the rat in vitro and in vivo to determine the role of cholinergic nerve activation in inducing airway constriction. Methods. Fifty-seven male Wistar rats were used. In in vitro study we examined whether tetrodotoxin (TTX), a Na channel blocker, 4-DAMP, a muscarinic M3 receptor antagonist, or neostigmine could affect c-EFS-induced contraction of the tracheal ring. In in vivo study, we examined whether c-ES of vagal nerve could increase maximum airway pressure (Pmax), and neostigmine could potentiate c-ES-induced Pmax. Results. TTX and 4-DAMP completely inhibited c-EFS-induced contraction, while neostigmine potentiated c-EFS-induced contraction dose-dependently. Pmax was not increased by neostigmine. Pmax was not increased by 2-Hz c-ES, but increased by the addition of

The effects of locus coeruleus electrical stimulation on brain waves of morphine dependent rats

Introduction: Opiates cause dependency via affect on central nervous system. Locus coeruleus nucleus is a main group of noradrenergic neurons in the brain that plays an important role in the expression of opioid withdrawal signs. During opioid withdrawal, brain waves change in addition to physical and behavioral signs. In this study, we examined the effects of locus coeruleus electrical sti...

Increasing the Effectiveness of Carbamazepine by Low Frequency Electrical Stimulation During CA1 Hippocampal Kindling on Seizure Scales in Adult Male Rats: An Experimental Study

Background and Objectives Nowadays, the application of Low Frequency Stimulations (LFS) has been considered as an alternative treatment in drug-resistant epileptic patients. So, the aim of this study was to determine the co-administration effects of LFS and carbamazepine (CBZ) during epileptogenesis in dorsal hippocampus using electrical Kindling method on seizure scales in adult male rats. ...

Effects of neostigmine and glycopyrrolate on pulmonary resistance in spinal cord injury.

Preliminary findings in subjects with spinal cord injury (SCI) suggest that neostigmine administered intravenously increases colonic tone, increases colonic contractions, and facilitates bowel evacuation. Of concern are potential pulmonary side effects, including an increase in airway secretions and bronchospasm. The objectives of the study were to determine the effects of intravenously adminis...

Analgesic effect of electrical stimulation and microinjection of L-glutamate into the paragigantocellularis nucleus on phasic and tonic pain

The paragigantocellularis (PGi) nucleus constitutes a large portion of the ventral pontomedullary reticular formation. Neurons within the PGi have been implicated in a variety of functions including cardiovascular regulation, respiratory control, pain and analgesia. Investigators have demonstrated that electrical stimulation and microinjection of L-glutamate into the PGi produce antinocicepti...
